How to Obtain a Flight Medical

Before Operating UAS Over 55lbs, the FAA requires pilots to certify they are physically and mentally fit.

While we can't go with you, we'll gladly show you the way!

Who is Eligible for a Class 3 Medical?

Most Individuals who Qualify for a DOT Medical, or Driver's License will qualify for a flight medical.

**Those with certain physical or mental health conditions may need to follow special processes to qualify. For more information see:** FAA Website

Step 1: MedXPress Account

Create an Account

Then fill out the application for a CLASS 3 MEDICAL.

Print off the confirmation, and bring it to your appointment.

Step 2: Find an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)

Use the FAA's Search tool to find an AME near you. Usually they are located in metropolitan / central areas depending on the state.

Step 3: Appointment

Use The contact information from the AME locator to schedule an appointment with your local AME. Appointments will consist of a physical, drug test, and evaluation.

** It is a good idea to talk with your PCP and to have a copy of your medical records for your appointment. **

You will need the confirmation number from MedXPress to make this appointment, and when you attend it to verify your identity.

Receive your Medical

After passing your medical examination, you will be issued a paper slip valid for 2 years (over 40) or 5 years (under 40).

Make sure not to lose it, as you will be required to have it on your person any time you fly!
