How to Register your Drone


Where to Register?

Drones over 55lbs must be registered through the Faa's part 47 process.

This can be done by mail, or FAA CARES.

Step 1: Gather Documentation

1- Proof of drone ownership: invoice or form 8050-2 (bill of sale)
2- Drone make, model, and serial number
3- Remote ID serial number
4- ID and address, must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legal entity
5- There is a one time fee of $5 for each aircraft registered

Fill out the Required information, and have all "owners' sign

**If submitting electronically, you will fill out and sign this form through CARES**

Doc 2: Provide Proof of Ownership

If you have a bill of sale, you'll need to include a copy with your application.

If you don't have a bill of sale, download and fill out the FAA's Affidavit of ownership, and have it notarized.

**Digital submissions MUST have a digitally notarized affidavit**

Step 2: Payment

Each aircraft registered has a one time fee of $5.

  • Mailed applications will need to send a check or money order.
  • CARES applications can be paid online.

Receive your N-Number

Most applications will be processed within 30 days of receipt by the FAA.

Once issued, apply the identifier to your aircraft as per FAA guidelines
